Pioneer scouts have just been to camp at Birchmere.
We spent a glorious 5 days in the Surrey sunshine where the Scouts have built shelters, made bird feeders, been swimming and played laser tag among many other activities.
The scouts have cooked most of their meals and have shown excellent teamwork.
Well done Pioneers, excellent work!
Huge shout out to the amazing Pioneer leaders for putting on such an exciting camp! ![]()

30th September 2024
On Sunday 22nd September 1st Rustington Forest Beaver Scouts went to Bognor War Memorial Hospital to assist the Friends of the Hospital with some gardening.
The Beavers started by de-weeding the flower beds before they planted some new daffodil bulbs. They also assisted in sweeping the paths as well as washing the benches.
The Beavers especially enjoyed watering the plants with the water pistols before we had to leave for our journey home.
All Beavers who attended gained their Community Impact Stage 1 badge as well as the Earth Tribe badge which is newly released.
All Beavers showed amazing teamwork and skills in this event, a great support to our local community and the beavers had fun too!

13th September 2024

For their 2024 Summer Camp the 1st Rustington Frontier Scouts went to Pinsent Scout Campsite in Winchester. 16 Scouts attended the camp, pitching their own tents and dining shelters and learning how to cook different meals to include Chicken Pesto Rice and Sticky Ginger Pork.
Whilst away the scouts completed a 10k hike, played wide games and had a number of camp fires to include a camp fire quiz. The Scouts spent the day at Paultons Park, went to Splashdown Flume Park, played Battle Zone Laser Warriors and went on the dry ski slope donuts.
All the Scouts had a great time and are looking forward to their next camp! ![]()

Go Beavers 24!!
30 very excited beavers went to Blacklands Farm for GoBeavers! Undertaking four different zones: fun, explore, create and do, and adventure.
Activities included cave bus, tunnels, low ropes, night line, bubble fun, archery, bouldering, and much more.
An amazing day out for our Beavers and a huge thank you to our leaders for taking them!

Our Pioneers visited Cobnor Activity Centre during May half term for their summer camp. The Scouts had an action packed week where they went sailing, raft building, orienteering and a sunrise hike. They also took part in the Scout Olympics where they undertook some more unusual activities including hobby horse showjumping, volleyball and bottle rockets. The Scouts also cooked all of their meals and competed in a patrol competition. A fantastic week had by all!
Big thanks to our amazing leaders for giving up their time and taking the pioneers away on this amazing trip

Thank you to everyone that come and supported us in the village during our street collection. Without these vital fundraising opportunities we wouldn’t be able to provide what we do to our young people.
We’re always looking at new ways of raising funds, so please check out our fundraising page if you’d like to make a donation.

Last night we hosted our annual group AGM, we had a lot to celebrate
a year of being the District Duty Group, successful fundraising events including our Comedy Night and not forgetting our outstanding performance for St George’s Day!
We had a few special thanks to shout out, to our amazing “dragon making’ ladies – Marion Mills and Barbara Blake – you made us the most amazing dragon that’ll go down in District history! We appreciate all your efforts in supporting us!
We said goodbye to 2 of our amazing Cub Leaders Graham and Erica Mills – with over 60 years service between them, we couldn’t be more grateful for everything you’ve done for the Group over this time! You’ll be missed by all – and as we always say you are welcome back anytime!
Finally we also said goodbye to our Explorer Leader & Deputy GSL Jon Harris who has recently moved away – we wish you the best of luck in your new adventure and we appreciate all the work you are still doing behind the scenes!

Also a huge thank you to our amazing comedy company Rangatainment Comedy for providing us with some fantastic comedians so we don’t have to try and be the funny ones![]()

St Georges Day 2023
We were so lucky with the weather in Arundel for the St Georges Day parade from the castle up to the cathedral.
This year 1st Rustington were the Duty Group, so it was up to us to run the show in the cathedral, so here’s a little insight into what we got up to.
An absolutely fantastic effort from some of our leadership and helpers to put on such a show and for us to have our very own St George vs the dragon battle.
We’re also very proud of the very smart turnout of all our young people. You really did us proud! 🙂

4th February 2023

A couple of our wonderful volunteers were down the hall today for a bit of DIY, and getting our ‘honours boards’ back on the wall.
Our original ‘Honours Board’ for our King and Queens Scout Award holders, almost perfectly timed for retirement after the passing of the Queen.
Our new ‘King’s Scout Award’ board, now in prime place ready to start loading with names in the not too distant future.
The ‘Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award’ board sitting alongside the KSA so they can move forward together.
These boards are there to give the young people something to aim for, striving to get their name up on the wall after their fantastic achievements.
And finally, our latest addition, and one that we’re really proud of, the ‘Friends of the Group’.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without our hard working volunteers, some of whom only work in the background, but are supporting us every step of the way. THANK YOU ![]()
13th November 2022
What a fantastic turnout today for Remembrance Parade, and everyone looking so smart! 🙂
It’s not often that every Section gets together, but it really does make us proud at events like this 🙂
124 wonderfully behaved young people and 30 of our fantastic leadership team, plus members of the committee helping with stewarding 😀

Good luck to our Explorers who are off to the Aosta region of Italy this weekend for their 2 week summer camp.
20 Explorers and 6 leaders (with some additional volunteer drivers). It’s going to be a fantastic trip!
Be sure to follow their journey on the 1st Rustington ESU page (Facebook and Instagram).
13th August 2022
Our Frontier Scouts headed off on summer camp today, and started it the best way possible during a heatwave by visiting an aqua park.

27th July 2022
Our Cubs have now started their joint summer camp, and each year it’s run with a secret theme, known only by some of the Leaders.
This year it was revealed to be the book series written by David Walliams.
Unfortunately David was unable to attend to open the camp, but he did send through a lovely message, and personalised, signed photos for each of our Cubs in attendance.

7th July 2022
This evening we held our AGM at HQ with a great turnout. We thanked Peter Dukes and Peter Holmes for their service as they both stepped down from their roles, Group Chair and Group Treasurer respectively.
We are very fortunate though, that we had volunteers ready to fill these roles, and as such, were appointed this evening.
Group Chair – Sarah Greig, formerly Group Secretary
Group Treasurer – Caroline Harris
Group Secretary – Julie Dixon
Each Section Leader submits a report which can be found here
10th June 2022

We recently learned of the passing of Pat Baker.
Pat was been a long term supporter of the Group, very active in raising vital funds over the years.
There is a link here to her memorial page, where Pat and her family have very kindly asked that donations are made to ourselves at 1st Rustington.
Our thoughts are with her family at this time, and we’d like to say a massive thank you Pat, for all you’ve done.
May you rest in peace.
8th June 2022
We’ve had a face lift.
Loving our new signage, keeping us looking smart and ‘on brand’ ![]()

1st April 2022

A huge well done to Cameron Misson and Katie Frost who finally collected their Queen Scout Award (QSA) on Friday after a couple of years or waiting.
The QSA is the highest award available in (Youth) Scouting, and although it’s worked towards by many, it’s comparatively achieved by few.
Well done both, a fantastic achievement! ![]()
13th March 2022
This past year we’ve wished a very happy retirement to two long standing members of 1st Rustington Scout Group, Sandra Brown and Anne Lecuyer.
Sandra started running Woodland Beavers in July 1987, and alongside this has been helping the Group with weekly hall cleaning for years. Sandra stepped back in 2017 to an Assistant Leader role, before finally stepping down in the summer of 2021 after 34 years with the Group.
Previously a Guide Leader, Anne says she was “tricked” into becoming a leader to assist on a camp in June 1981, before going to the Warrant Committee in December 1981. Anne ran Kingfisher Cubs and for some time was Assistant GSL, until she stepped down from Kingfishers in 2016 to take on the role of Group Scout Leader. Finally calling it a day after 40 years, she handed over the reigns in January 2022 to the new GSL Team.

These two women have helped shape the lives of so many young people in Rustington. We thank them for their service, and wish them both a very happy retirement!
